Since the introduction of BS 8458 in 2015, water mist systems have emerged as a recognized and acceptable alternative to traditional fire suppression systems, particularly due to their effectiveness. In many situations, water mist provides superior fire suppression while using less water, which can significantly minimize water damage in the event of system activation.
While the industry boasts a variety of innovative solutions, it is important to note that not all water mist systems available on the market achieve BS 8458 compliance. For a system to meet the requirements of BS 8458:2015, it must include a pump with an automatic monthly self-test, quick-response thermally activated nozzles instead of heat or smoke detectors, nozzles tested to a recognized standard with supporting documentation, and pipework specifically designed for fire protection applications. When selecting a system, it is crucial to ensure that all these criteria are satisfied.
Important note: not all water mist systems are created equal.
